Attiributes of Allah

Attributes of Allah are His beautiful names and Quran and Hadith use the term “Asma al Husna”. Used by Allah to describe Himself and His divine qualities to his creation. there are two places in the Quran where the attributes of Allah have been mentioned in the most comprehensive way and they are in Surah al Baqarah, the verse of Throne (2:255) and Surah al Hashr (22-24). in addition to these there are number of verses calling Allah with different names.

We as slaves of Allah, it is necessary to awaken ourselves in order to please Allah at the greatest possible way and to have strong believe in Him. it is mandatory for us that we enlighten ourselves with His attributes for better understanding of His religion and fulfilling the purpose behind our creation. Acquainting the knowledge of Asma al Husna is also essential for us because it helps us to release ourselves from all worries and we find tranquility in it.

“Who have believed and whose hearts have rest in the remembrance of Allah. Verily in the remembrance of Allah do hearts find rest” (13:28)

In our prayers, when desperately in need, we raise our hands and call Him with different names like Al Rahman( the Most Gracious), Al Rahim ( the Most Merciful), Al Karim ( The Most Generous) and so on because we are aware that He is the bearer the of infinite blessings and have strong belief that He will surely bless us with our wishes and desires He is Al Akbar ( the Greatest) the Exalted (Al Raafi), the Enricher (Al Mughni) and Al Mujib (Responder to Prayer)

“And when My servants ask you, [O Muhammad], concerning Me – indeed I am near. I respond to the invocation of the supplicant when he calls upon Me. So let them respond to Me [by obedience] and believe in Me that they may be [rightly] guided.” (2:186)

Irrespective of the sin, how big or small it is, whether we have done it knowingly or unknowingly, we are never left disappointed and He is always ready to forgive us provided we seek true tawbah as His names include Al Ghafur ( The All Forgiving) Al Ghaffar ( The Forgiving) Al Afwuu ( The Forgiver).

“And seek forgiveness of Allah. Indeed Allah is Forgiving and Merciful.” [Qur’an: Chapter 73, Verse 20]

“And whoever does a wrong or wrongs himself but then seeks forgiveness will find Allah Forgiving and Merciful.” [Qur’an: Chapter 4, Verse 110]

It is most likely that once we have deeper knowledge of His names it would become more easy to worship and please Him because he is Al Hadi (The Guide) and perhaps in following some of His commandments we find difficulty but then His attribute of loving us (Al Wudud) convince us that it is for our good only and hence we try to fulfill our obligations with full dedication.
